Adam Bevell, 36, still can’t believe he was up on stage with music legend Bono and the rock band, U2.

Towards the close of the show, the band’s frontman spotted Bevell holding a sign declaring “blind guitar player,” indicating that the fan wanted to play and dedicate a song to his wife.

“[Bono] said ‘C’mon up here. Get this dude a guitar,’ and I thought no way man, there’s no way this is happening,” Bevell recalled.

“Dude’s gonna play some guitar,” Bono told the crowd.

With some help from Bono, Bevell performed his favorite song “All I Want Is You.”

“It was the greatest feeling knowing that I was playing with the greatest rock star in the world but he didn’t make me feel like that at all, he made me feel like we were in our living room,” Bevell said, adding that playing with U2 was something he had on his bucket list.

“Even still talking about it, I get emotional because I know how much it means to him,” said Bevell’s wife Andrea.

Just when the show seemed like it was over, the father of four got the call to go on-stage, Bevell said.

“It took me a second. I had no idea what was going on because in my mind they had left and  walked off,” said Bevell. “I had no idea Bono was still there. Instantly, I was lifted over that front rail and hoisted on stage by the security guards. Before I knew it, I could hear Bono’s voice saying, ‘what do you want to play man?’”

However, the night only got better.

Moments before Bevell was helped off stage, Bono gave him his guitar, a Gretsch Green Irish Falcon, one of only a few others like it in the world.

“I took the guitar off and handed it to him, and then he turned and said I want you to have it,” said Bevell. “I said no way. For me, it was just an out-of-body experience. I was there, but I was floating. It was the most amazing experience.”

“I don’t know how else to describe it,” said Bevell. “It was one of those moments that was just magical.”

Bevell, who lives in Phoenix, Arizona, has been to at least 20 U2 concerts over the years.

Over two years and 100 shows we’ve had no shortage of surprises on this tour – from the reinvention of ‘Real Thing’ to the return of ‘Zooropa’  – but tonight we had two unexpected moments to rival them.

On a hot night in Nashville, the first time the band have played the city in thirty years, it was a spine-tingling moment as ‘Still Haven’t Found’ ended and Bono, accompanied by Edge, segued into The Wanderer - the first performance at a U2 show of a song the band wrote for – and performed with – Johnny Cash, for their 1993 album Zooropa.

And there was a second special moment – right at the end of the show – when one fan came up on stage and led the band and stadium in ‘All I Want Is You’. Something else!

‘Well, we’re here now, some things remain the same: my name is Bono and we’re a band from Dublin. (…) In a city of masters, we are students – will you sing with us?’

Nashville said Yes to that and Still Haven’t Found became The Wanderer which led to memories of ‘some special times with Johnny and June here in Nashville over the years.’

But this show had one last surprise and a moment one fan will never surrender. With the band about to walk off stage, Bono started talking to someone on the front row: ‘You want to play what?’

Before you know it, this dude was up on stage, holding Bono’s Irish Falcon guitar and being introduced to Music City.

‘My wife’s name is Andrea,’ he explained. ‘I’m kinda nervous man!’
But as he started playing, the band backing him, Bono started singing, ‘All I Want Is You’ and the nerves disappeared.

‘You say you want diamonds on a ring of gold
You say you want your story to remain untold….’

A spine-tingling moment and when it was over Bono hugged him and gave him his guitar – something to pinch when he wakes up from his dream.
