The concerts here in Buenos Aires have proved to be pretty exciting! Some fantastic campaigning by Amnesty Argentina volunteers meant that we have smashed through our target of 100,000 signatures for the Demand Dignity campaign since we started on the European leg of the U2 360° tour last August. I’m delighted and so proud of each and every one of our Amnesty volunteers and staff around the world who have worked so hard, come rain or shine, to achieve this. They have shown such passion and dedication in bringing the campaign to life to reach the hearts and minds of so many people in so many countries. From Europe to New Zealand, Australia, South Africa and Latin America, the tour has given Amnesty the opportunity to realise a fantastic sense of international unity in our pursuit to end the human rights violations that drive and deepen global poverty.
Volunteers from Amnesty Argentina have certainly played their part in helping to achieve this, most notably with a phenomenal finale on Sunday where they got 6,017 signatures – the third highest number on the entire tour to date. Latin American passion was running high as our volunteers campaigned for the rights of indigenous people in Argentina, who comprise 1.5% of the population but are typically the poorest in the country, living primarily in isolated rural areas or in urban shantytowns.
We were delighted that indigenous human rights defender Felix Diaz and members of the Toba Qom community were able to join us at the concert on Wednesday, as we were campaigning on their behalf at the shows. Last November 400 police officers violently dispersed members of the community who had mounted a roadblock in protest at plans to build a university on traditional lands. The police did not have an eviction order. They burned down their temporary homes and included in the fires were many National Identification Documents that are needed to get vital assistance from social programmes. Police have also failed to provide protection from armed violence directed at Felix and the community and Felix has been threatened by the police himself.
In Formosa, the government refuses to engage in constructive dialogue with indigenous communities and instead imposes development and other plans on them without their consent. There have been also serious allegations of harassment. Determined to meet with the National Government, Felix and others camped for 20 days and initiated a 7 day hunger strike. The strike ended when officials from the Ministry of the Interior agreed to meet with him. An agreement was struck, but all aspects of it currently remain unmet. Amnesty Argentina volunteers managed to get 12,248 signatures to support this issue at the 3 concerts here. We were honoured that such brave human rights defenders attended the concert and represented Amnesty on stage.

Invited by an employer winemaker, Bono went on a private plane to the city of Mendoza, which was accompanied by a small delegation staff, and none of his bandmates.
Bono traveled to Mendoza before leaving for Brazil, which next week will perform with U2 in Sao Paulo, for three nights.
According to local media reports, the singer went to a farm in the town of Maipu where he had lunch in the company, among others, the Argentinian musician Gustavo Santaolalla, the former Arco Iris.
Bono, with his ever present sunglasses, walked part of the estate and winery, as it is known for his fondness for Argentine wines.
However, Bono only he could see at the airport “The Plumerillo” because then the local press failed to observe during their tour of the estate attended.
During his stay in Buenos Aires, Bono was very anxious to realize not only traveled, especially at night-but also for meetings and gatherings.
The Irish band performed at the Estadio Unico de La Plata three concerts that were applauded by some 180,000 spectators.
In one, Bono invited on stage to Leon Gieco, who sang “I only ask of God.”
The tour “360″ being conducted by Bono along with his companions who complete The Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr., serves as a presentation of the album “No Line the Horizon” and end its U.S. tour in the Federal District of Mexico.

U2 ARGENTINA II (FULL COVERAGE)
U2′s La Plata #2 setlist, 02/04
Today, after a couple of days off, U2 played their second concert in La Plata, Argentina. This was the first time U2 have ever had a gap of two full days between the first and second concerts in the same city, though such a gap will be repeated in Mexico next month. During the afternoon today, the band did a soundcheck. It included Even Better Than The Real Thing, Stuck In A Moment, New Year’s Day, and Ultra Violet.
All four soundchecked songs made the setlist, and the latter three were played for the first time in 2011. U2 stuck with Even Better Than The Real Thing as the tour’s energetic new opener, and followed it with New Year’s Day in place of I Will Follow. Stuck In A Moment slotted in as a mid-set acoustic performance, appearing for just the third time since 2009 when it was a setlist staple. Stuck was part of a surprising throwback to the Elevation Tour, with four out of five consecutive songs coming from All That You Can’t Leave Behind. The first song of the second encore was rotational in 2010 and is rotational again this year, with Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me being rotated out in favour of Ultra Violet tonight.
Until The End Of The World was moved from its usual spot after Elevation all the way up the setlist to fourth. This is the earliest it has been played on the current tour, though it occupied such an early spot as recently as some Vertigo Tour shows in 2006. It is also worth noting that tonight, Achtung Baby and All That You Can’t Leave Behind achieved greater representation in the setlist than No Line On The Horizon, the album ostensibly being promoted on this tour.
